Why River Root?
The name “River Root” means exactly as it sounds – the root of a plant found in a river. Roots are very important for plants; they are the life line for plants. Plants cannot thrive without roots. Roots suck water and nutrients up, sustaining life for the plant. Not only do roots sustain life for plants, but they prevent erosion, keeping soil in place during rain. For a root to endure the constant flow of a river, it must be incredibly strong, durable, and secure.
At River Root Counseling, our goal is to empower and encourage our clients as they become “river roots” in life. We take pride in providing a holistic and authentic approach to your concerns. Our goal is to assist you in not only your current concerns, but also to help you create a “toolbox” of techniques and tools you can use as future concerns arise in life.
What makes us different?
The therapists at River Root are compassionate, caring, and we have a genuine desire to help our clients achieve their goals. Our therapists are specially and extensively trained in maternal mental health, and deeply vetted before joining the team. After years of working in different areas of mental health, we have found that we are passionate both personally and professionally about maternal mental health and women’s mental health. At River Root, we are specialist therapists – what this means is we have specific training, education, and experience in our specialties – things you will not find in a generalist therapist.
Every therapist at River Root has received comprehensive training in all things perinatal including:
- Postpartum depression and anxiety
- Birth trauma and PTSD
- Mood disorders during pregnancy (anxiety and depression)
- The emotional toll of infertility
- Suicidality and self harm
- Infant and pregnancy loss
- Sexual relationship issues
- Transition into parenthood
- Surrogacy
- LGBTQ+ families
- Intersectionality and birth
- …and more
We offer flexibility in appointment scheduling, and we understand the importance of timely and early mental health support. Our goal is to help you get to the root of your concerns, ultimately setting you up with the tools and resources you need to confidently tackle future problems that may arise. At River Root, we are huge advocates for prevention, and want to help you with your concerns from the moment they arise. The earlier you seek mental health support, the sooner you will feel better. With that being said, we do understand that often times there are barriers or concerns, and early intervention may not be possible.
All of the therapists at River Root have had personal experiences with motherhood, either through families of our own, or being uniquely aligned with close friends/family members during the growth of their respective families. We have all had unique journeys that have brought us to a place in life to provide mental health care for other moms and women. Caring for you and your family is more than a job, it is a passion to us, and we are honored to be part of your support team.
No matter where you are on your healing journey, we want to meet you there, and provide you with the tools, resources, and support you need to meet your therapeutic goals and feel better.
