Trauma Counseling (PTSD)
Traumatic events can happen to anyone at anytime, and often the effects can feel debilitating and long-lasting. Whether you experienced a victimization, a car crash, a natural disaster, or a different life-altering event, trauma does not discriminate on who will experience it. Not only do traumatic events affect one’s psychological well-being, but they often have physical effects in the body as well. Trauma can wreak great havoc in lives, despite when the traumatic event(s) occurred. Often times, unaddressed trauma can “overflow” and significantly interfere with many aspects of one’s life. Some of symptoms associated with trauma include…
- Flashbacks to the event
- Nightmares or bad dreams
- Severe anxiety
- Freighting thoughts
- Insomnia or difficulty sleeping
- Avoidance of situations that remind you of the trauma
- Feeling tense or “on edge”
- Trouble remembering key pieces of the traumatic event
- Guilt or blame
What I want you to know...
These are normal human reactions to abnormal events. It is natural to have some or all of these symptoms. 70% of individuals will experience at least one traumatic event in their lifetime, and 20% of those will develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Bodies and brains do unique things to cope and heal from trauma, and one person’s experience may look very different than the next.
Through evidence-based therapeutic intervention in trauma counseling, I am confident you will find symptom relief. My goal is to work alongside you as your therapist, and create a safe, calming environment for you to process through the traumatic event(s) you experienced. You do not have to navigate this alone.
